How does SGML's Master of Applied Leadership and Management (MALM) program differ from a traditional MBA program? An MBA is a generalist degree that provides individuals with a broad introduction to all facets of business. It is a 48-credit hour program (16 courses). The MALM degree is a specialized degree that provides individuals with deep knowledge about a focus area (leadership) and a survey of related areas. It is a 30-credit hour program (10 courses).
Since it requires 18 less credit hours, the MALM is significantly less expensive than an MBA. However, as per AACSB guidelines for all business programs in accredited business schools, students that do not hold appropriate academic business backgrounds may be required to complete up to 15-semester hours (5 courses) of foundation and prerequisite coursework in addition to the 30 hours required for the MALM
