If your undergraduate major is not in a business-related field, you may need additional coursework to meet the program requirements below.
PREREQUISITE COURSES: Prior to beginning the program you must have academic credit in (or demonstrate mastery of) the following 18 semester hours of coursework: introductory accounting (6 hours), principles of economics (6 hours), statistics (3 hours), and computer skills such as Excel and Access (3 hours).
CPA LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: The CPA law in Arizona requires that CPA applicants, in addition to accounting coursework, show academic credit in 30 semester hours of related business coursework. Fortunately, the 12 hours of the prerequisite coursework listed above count toward the 30 hours. (The six hours of introductory accounting count toward the accounting hours requirement of the CPA law.) Other acceptable business-related courses include computer science (including information systems or data processing), economics, finance, management, business law, college algebra or more advanced mathematics, advanced written communication, advanced oral communication, ethics and other courses closely related to the subject of accounting.
