1. What is the Certificate in Professional Accounting program?
This is a program designed for students who have received degrees or a minor in accounting, but are lacking the 150 credits needed to be certified as a C.P.A.
If you do not have a degree or minor in accounting, than refer to our Post Baccalaureate certificate in accounting program.

2. What is the difference between the Post Baccalaureate certificate program and the Professional certificate Program?
The Post Baccalaureate Program is designed for students that do not have a degree in accounting and need upper level (300-400) accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam. The Professional program is designed for students that have Bachelor in accounting, but are lacking the additional credits for the 150 hour certification requirement.

3. Do I need the 150 credits to sit for the C.P.A exam?
The extra credits will be required once you have passed the exam and are requesting to the State Board of Accounting to be certified.

4. How do I apply?
There are two applications needed.
- Apply online under Degree/Certificate (admit type) http://www.asu.edu/gradapp
An application fee will be required.
Even though this is a non-degree program, students must apply under Degree/Certificate option online. If student applies as non-degree, they will need to reapply and pay application fee again.
Online application is only good for one semester, if student does not attend, they must reapply and pay application fee.

5. When should I apply?
Depending on enrollment and availability of classes it is recommend no later than three weeks prior to the semester starting. The sooner the better.

6. Can I receive financial aid while in the certificate program?
This program does not qualify for any financial aid.

7. How will I know what courses I should take?
The program advisor will evaluate transcripts to determine what will be needed to complete the certificate and/or the 150 hour credits.

8. Do I need to meet with an advisor before applying?
It is not required to meet with the advisor before applying. Once admitted you will be contacted by the advisor prior to registering.
9. Can I take classes without being in a program?
It is required that students be admitted in an accounting program in order to enroll in upper division accounting or business courses.

10. Do I have to complete all classes at one campus or there online courses?
The program requires at least 18 credits be completed at the home campus to receive the certificate which will also require the completion of a 150 credits. Other ASU campuses may have restrictions on students taking upper level courses without being in a program on that campus, which might prohibit students from enrolling. We do not offer online courses.

11. What tuition rate will I pay?
Even though this program only involves undergraduate coursework, this is still a graduate non-degree program and graduate tuition will apply.

12. What if I don't need all the credits required for this program?
It's not required that a student complete the program, but they must be admitted to an accounting program to enroll in classes.

13. Do I have to actually finish the certificate?
Students are not required to complete the certificate program, but must be admitted and enrolled to take classes.

14. If I'm already in another program at a different ASU campus, can I just register for classes without applying to the certificate program?
In order to control enrollment in our courses, we require that students be in an ASU's West campus accounting program to enroll in our upper division accounting courses.

15. Do I need a bachelor degree in order to apply to the certificate program?
Students are required to have a Bachelor in Accounting completed in order to apply to our Professional program.

16. I'm an international student with an f-1 visa; can I apply to this program?
International students holding an f-1 visa are not eligible to enroll in our certificate program, since this is a non-degree program.
