1. What is the difference between the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting program and the Certificate in Professional Accounting program?

The Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting program is designed for students who do not have a degree in accounting and need accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam. The Professional program is designed for students who have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, and are lacking the additional credits for the 150-hour CPA certification requirement.

2. Is this program only for people sitting for the CPA exam?

Students may enroll in this program simply to earn the accounting background needed for the work environment. Students are not required to take any certification exams, but the program does prepare you for the CPA, CMA and CIA exams.

3. Can I be enrolled in this program while working towards a graduate degree (Masters) at ASU?

Students cannot be enrolled in degree and non-degree programs at the same time.

4. Is the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting program only offered at SGML?

Yes. And because this program is exclusive to SGML, classes must be taken at the West campus.

5. Do I have to take the GMAT to be admitted to this program?

No. Non-degree graduate programs do not require the GMAT.

6. What are the tuition rates for this program?

Even though this program consists of upper division undergraduate courses, graduate tuition rates apply.

7. Can I receive financial aid for this Certificate program?

You may receive financial aid in the form of a student loan for the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting program.

8. When can I apply to this SGML Certificate program?

We recommend applying no later than three weeks prior to the start of each semester. Deadlines for applications are August 1 for the fall semester, January 1 for the spring semester and June 1 for the summer semester.

9. Can international students apply to this Certificate program?

Since this is a non-degree program, it is not eligible to international students requiring an F-visa and I-20.

10. Do I need to meet with an advisor before applying?

No. In fact, we recommend applying before meeting with an advisor. Mandatory advisement will be required once you are admitted into the program, prior to registering for classes.

11. Do I need to send all my transcipts from colleges I have attended?

Transcripts are required from colleges and universities other than ASU. All transcripts should be mailed directly to the Accounting Programs Office:

12. How many credits or classes are required to complete this Certificate program?

10 courses (30 credits) are required for the program.

13. Can I transfer any courses or credits from other institutions into this Certificate program?

A maximum of 3 courses (9 credits) may be transferred to the Certificate program. Your advisor will determine which courses apply at your initial meeting, prior to registering for classes.

14. Can I transfer foreign work into this Certificate program?

The Arizona State Board of Accounting has specific guidelines regarding foreign work and how it should be evaluated. Please review the requirements on at www.accountancy.state.az.us

15. How soon must I complete the Certificate program once enrolled?

You can finish this Certificate program as quickly or as slowly as your schedule accommodates. Evening courses are available.
